Worship and Prayer

WORSHIP AND BIBLE STUDY

WORSHIP:  Sunday Morning church service at 10:00 a.m.  Children attend the opening of the service through the children's parable, then go to Sunday School classes.

COMMUNION:  First Sunday of every month, during morning worship.  All who follow Jesus are invited to join in at His table.

BIBLE STUDY:  Wednesday mornings at 9:45 a.m. in the pastor's study.  Beginning September 15, the topic is, "Questions Jesus Asks."  Pastor Hope has long been fascinated by (and often preached on) the questions Jesus posed to the disciples, his opponents, and the crowd; and how these questions can provoke us to new thought and new life.  Join our interrogatory journey to find answers to such questions as "Why are you afraid?  Do you want to be healed?  Why did you doubt?  What will it profit...?  Why do you see the speck?  Who did the will of the Father?  Could you not watch one hour?  Who do you say that I am?"  Maybe this is your time to join us as we study and listen to what God might be teaching us!

BOOK STUDY:  Discussion Group meets Sunday mornings from 8:45 - 9:45 a.m., prior to worship service.  Bring in topics of interest to discuss or books that you'd like to share.

  All are welcome to attend!

"SIGHT"
A POEM BY PASTOR HOPE

The struggle in life

is not to see a half-empty glass as

half-full

but to see an utterly empty glass

as filled to the brim...

so that if a single drop were added

the Psalm would be true:

"My Cup Runneth Over."

                 A PRAYER
       BY PASTOR HOPE

Loving God, we come through these doors looking for who we are , where we are to go.  From lives weighed down with burdens, we come looking for people to love us.  From past histories that cast shadows over the present, we come looking for the new creation you birth within us.  From belief too uncertain to calm stormy seas, we come looking for a faith founded on rock and unafraid to set sail.  Bless us, O God, so that when we exit these doors, we will have received what we need and be ready to give what you ask.  Amen

ALLOW US TO PRAY FOR YOU

There are so many ways to witness the power of prayer in our lives today.  Whether it's a prayer for healing, for new beginnings, for God's presence, or a prayer of thanks,  send an e-mail to stpetersws@verizon.net with the subject line, "Prayer Request," and you will be added to our weekly bulletin and monthly newsletter.  If you would like Pastor Hope to pray for you directly, please include your contact information.

        PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY

The Rev. Linda Harle-Mould coordinates a Prayer Shawl Ministry on behalf of St. Peter's.  Each shawl is dedicated to someone in need of our prayers and support.  As each is completed, it is brought into the worship service, where members of the congregation are invited to touch it and add their blessings.  You can be part of this ministry by suggesting names of people needing them, or by collecting coupons from Joann Fabrics and A.C. Moore.  Recipients do not have to be church members.

        PRAYER CIRCLE MINISTRY

Pastor Hope and the Elders invite anyone to volunteer to pray for others on our new prayer chain called, "St. Peter's Prayer Circle."  Once or twice a month, Pastor Hope will contact Circle members by e-mail or phone to ask them to pray for certain people, either anonymously or by name, either from the community or our congregation.  Sometimes we get a special phone call asking for prayers for various situations, and it would be great to be able to tell the caller that 25 people will hold them in prayer and loving concern.  Please contact Pastor Hope if interested.

PRAYERS FOR OUR GREATER CHURCH COMMUNITY

HAITI:  We pray for the hundreds of thousands of people killed or displaced by the earthquake here.  Donations to earthquake relief are being funneled through the United Church of Christ "One Great Hour of Sharing."  Health kits and infant care kits are forwarded through Church World Service.  Contact St. Peter's for information on how you can help.

HONDURAS:  We pray for our friends in Honduras where NY/HELP has been trying to make a difference.  There is already so much poverty in this country and it was further compounded when it was struck by an earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter Scale and unsettled by political turmoil.  As further information becomes available it will be posted on-line at www.ny-helphonduras.org/

DUNKIRK CONFERENCE CENTER:  We pray for the continued life of this terrific facility.  Many memories have been shared by campers over the years.

OUR WORLD:  We pray for the people of the 22 refugee camps in northwestern Pakistan, who are fleeing from the fighting of the Taliban; the oppressed peoples of Burma (Myanmar), the sick and starving of so many countries in Africa; and those right here in our country who are affected by poverty and natural disasters.

PAKISTAN:  We ask your prayers and support for the families of Pakistan who have been displaced by floods.

UCC ON-LINE PRAYER CHAPEL:  We invite you to visit ucc.org and click on "Prayer Chapel" where you can read prayer requests of UCC people around the nation and enter your own prayer requests.  At 9:00 p.m. each evening it becomes a live Prayer Chapel where you can pray with others from around the country.
